Acupuncture and Weight Loss

Do you feel like you’ve tried it all?

Are you struggling to lose weight after attempting countless diets and exercise protocols?
Are you in a constant battle to keep weight from creeping back as soon as you relax your strict eating habits?

Acupuncture could be the key to your weight loss success.

What is acupuncture?

A traditional healing art from China and the eastern countries of Japan and Korea, acupuncture is a treatment that consists of placing fine needles into the body at certain points for specific therapeutic effects. There are two schools of thought on how acupuncture works. The Western perspective suggests that acupuncture releases endorphins which produce natural euphoric activity (explaining why it is so effective with pain), and the traditional Eastern perspective, which suggests that acupuncture regulates the flow of QI, or energy, bringing the body back into balance.

Around for more than 2,500 years, this relatively painless healing technique has gradually become more accepted since its introduction to the United States over 40 years ago. Acupuncture is now recognized as a safe and effective treatment for everything from chronic and acute pain, headaches, female issues and even infertility, and is often used to help with weight loss and weight management.

Should you try acupuncture?

Should you choose to try acupuncture you must expect to have a consultation with your chosen practitioner to clarify the reasons for your weight problem,. For some, the issues are physiological (due to issues such as a slow metabolism, menopause or thyroid problems), for others, behavioral issues such as overeating and binge eating may also need to be addressed targeting acupuncture points that will work to reduce cravings and appetite, while balancing hormones related to metabolic function.

If there is a craving issue or, potentially, an eating disorder, then these behavioral issues can also be addressed with the acupuncture. If there is a metabolic issue, where you do not eat that much but put on weight, then acupuncture can help stimulate the metabolism and also your digestive system so the impact of eating becomes less likely to cause weight gain.

Crosby Chiropractic & Acupuncture Centre has doctors who can help evaluate the metabolic component of your weight loss issues while also helping you evaluate any habit behaviors so they can be addresses through acupuncture also.
